Friday's Full Moon of September: Harvest Moon and how you can use the Moon Cycle in daily life

My fascination with the moon is only growing. And with it: my understanding of her. The moon's a her right? Once you do a bit of reading on the moon and start following its phases every month you start realizing how much humans have been and still are affected by the moon and it's phases: From hunting, to mating to creation...

The Phases of the moon, Neil Young and all of us as Creative Beings

I've recently come across the beautiful belief that we are all born as Creative Beings. And I know right, we think straight away: "uhj not me, I'm neither a singer, writer, painter or have creative talents what so ever". That's pretty much how I used to think.

The last couple of years, perhaps as part of my yoga/spiritual journey, I've come to realize that we ARE creative beings, all of us. We are born to create. Whether we're artists or school teachers, we create. Whether we are moms or dads, we create. Whether we're modern nomads traveling the world with our notepad or camera we create. We create babies, stories, homes, work-projects, recipes, art and LOVE. You were born to create, so create.

The main four phases of the moon (New Moon, 1st Quarter, Full Moon and 3rd Quarter) can all be understood in relation to and connected with any given creative process we are in. And more importantly USED to utilize the energy of the moon in the right way (sleepless on Full Moon night? Perhaps someone is hiding their light too often - let it SHINE and perhaps you will find sleep during the night again). Many people follow & use the moon as guidance - I just recently discovered that the Canadian musician Neil Young is a "mindfull moon-watcher"... And I absolutely love his song named after THIS MONTH'S MOON: "HARVEST MOON":

"HARVEST MOON"

Come a little bit closer
Hear what I have to say
Just like children sleepin'
We could dream this night away.

But there's a full moon risin'
Let's go dancin' in the light
We know where the music's playin'
Let's go out and feel the night.

Because I'm still in love with you
I want to see you dance again
Because I'm still in love with you
On this harvest moon.

When we were strangers
I watched you from afar
When we were lovers
I loved you with all my heart.

But now it's gettin' late
And the moon is climbin' high
I want to celebrate
See it shinin' in your eye.

Because I'm still in love with you
I want to see you dance again
Because I'm still in love with you
On this harvest moon.

Neil Young and the importance of the moon

It is said that the moon means a lot to Neil Young and it appears in many many of his songs! Apparently he's also guided by the moon in his personal and professional life (according to insiders Neil is more likely to take on a project if it coincides with the full moon. How epic is that, how epic is he?)...

Before there was organized religion, there was the moon. The Indians knew about the moon. Pagans followed the moon. I’ve followed it for as long as I can remember, and that’s just my religion. I’m not a practicing anything, I don’t have a book that I have to read. It can be dangerous working in a full moon atmosphere, because if there are things that are going to go wrong, they can really go wrong. But that’s great, especially for rock ‘n’ roll

The September Full Moon 2016: The Harvest Moon

September's full moon will show on Friday the 16th and is known as the Harvest Moon. It's related to harvesting the seeds planted during spring & summer. That's about what I know about this month's moon (there's 12 different full moons in one year, all with different spiritual meanings).

Oh and I KNOW that my unborn niece might be born on Friday Full Moon (my sister is due on September 21st), fingers crossed for a #moonchild friends! <3

The moon has 4 main phases (New, First Q, Full and Third Q) and many in between

Get in touch with the moon and start using it's phases in any creative process

I've lately been learning with and inspired by Laura Larriva Page from The Rhythm Way. She's amazing and at Copenhagen Yoga Festival a couple of weeks ago I attended one of her workshops about the Moon. I got super enlightened and inspired - so here I share some of my most important take-away messages about the Moon in every day life:

"A quick overview of how you can view & use the moon in relation to any kind of (creative) work"

New Moon (no moon)

Darkness - where the ideas EMERGE: Surrender to the desire to lean back at home and retire from reality (The New Moon is traditionally the time for the female menstruation to appear - but these days where we are spending so much time inside our female cycles rarely coincides with the moon cycle). Ideas are being seeded and intentions for the new phase being set.

1st quarter

Light appearing -  it's time to take action: Open your senses, your mind & your heart so you can be inspired. Gather information, shape your idea/project/product and give it a try! Struggle is okay - is it dark or is lt light? - surrender to the process. It's okay.

Full Moon

Illumination - The sky is lid up and so are we. This is a time to RADIATE - to let ourselves shine and share our creative process with the world. Don't hide your light by being be too humble - remember you were born to create what only you can create. Be proud and SHINE.

3rd Quarter

The light is diminishing - It's time to re-orient and listen. Perhaps our creative cycle has finished and it's time to let it go - give your contribution to the world in one way or the other - and prepare for a new cycle. Respect this time to slow down and await the new cycle to begin - trust that the light will come again and make friends with your fears.
