From the beginning of this year, I've been a board member of the new Danish Young Professionals in Shanghai as the Vice President of Events. In our group we've been working on creating a new and stronger identity to be more visible for YPs in Shanghai. It's a super fun and interesting volunteer job - especially because some of the others in our group are my good friends. We are almost done with launching our new website.
We focus on doing events as well as creating a space for Danish YPs coming to Shanghai - to find useful information, meet other YPs and get inspired.
Hope For Nepal
This month we've been working on a very impulsive and very good-hearted event: A Charity Raffle event for Nepal. Very last minute but very efficient. In just 2 weeks we've teamed up with Shanghai Nepali Community, we've collected raffle donations from over 20 companies as well as found sponsoring partners for venue and Food. Project Wine, my personal favorite wine bar opened the doors to their venue for our event and Nepali Kitchen catered the most yummy food from Nepal.
By reaching out to all our personal contacts Tuesday night after work we managed to get over 60 people together - YPs from Denmark and from all over the world. A small group from Shanghai Nepali Community came for support and also to do a presentation about Nepal. About the colors of the beautiful country, the happiness & simplicity of it's people and not least: how all this on April 25 2015 at 11.56 was suddenly changed when the Gorkha earthquake occurred. Super touching, super beautiful and as our speaker Ashish who's normal profession is surgeon at an expat hospital in Shanghai finished of by emphasizing the word hope it never became too sad. I think hope was the perfect word to use to encourage extra support for our raffle and silent donations which began shortly after.
Through our raffle, silent auction and some private direct donations we raised almost 25.000 RMB. An incredible effort by our guests and sponsors!
The donations and support goes on and all donations and inquiries about supporting in one way or the other can be directed to Shanghai Nepali Community. Read more on their website about how this community was founded after the earthquake and how they distribute the money to grass root organizations and directly to those in need in Nepal.
Such a great night doing something good, being supported by such happy Shanghai people & having an amazing night.
