It's a new year and whether you are a fan of those often discussed resolutions or not this is the perfect time to decide what you want to focus on in the new year. If we want small or big changes in our life we have to work towards them and this work all starts in our mind.
Have you ever heard about Law of Attraction - that you attract what you think about & what you focus on? It's a great law: just focus on those millions and prepare to be rich this year... Oh honestly, it might be a bit overrated this law but it exists and it works... At least part of the way. No magic tricks needed - think about it rationally: if you want to have a new job and you want it that much that you think about it and work towards it everyday - surely you will get a new job at some point. If you want to be more healthy and want it that much that you think about it and work towards it everyday - surely you will start making healthier choices and become a more healthy person.
So for 2015, to make it a more healthy and happy year just start today - I'll share with you how I do.
The Small Habits & Everyday Routines
I find that it's all about habits and routines. Those little things you do every day are the things that will define you, your happiness and your health. So when I want to make healthy changes I start slowly by thinking about my everyday habits. Do you think about yours?
Are you starting everyday with a positive thought, long body stretches, even some exercise and some fresh food? Are you looking at the bright side of life as often as possible? Are you forgiving yourself when your night out ended up much bigger than planned and instead of blaming and critiquing yourself are you spending your energy and thoughts on how to make up for it and choose differently next time? Are you being kind to yourselves, kind to your family, kind to your colleagues and even kind to a rude taxi driver? Are you taking a walk after lunch instead of a cigarette and what snacks are you choosing when it's sweet-tooth o'clock?
I find that all these small everyday habits are the ones you need to focus on if you want to make some healthier & happier changes. It may seem like a lot but in the beginning it's really just about observing your everyday thoughts and your everyday actions, then thinking about how you can improve them and then start implementing your changes.
Law of attraction is powerful also when it comes to negative bad habits. So really, even when you act negatively or different from how you ideally want to act or when you experience negative things try to think positive thoughts and think about how your behavior or reaction can be done better another time.
A Better Routine
During my time in Denmark I was talking a lot to my sister about this. She had the most adorable baby girl this year and after 6 months of cozy in-door baby time she wants to start some healthier habits - but where to start? My first advise was (and is) to start observing and changing your morning routine. Just like January is the beginning of the new year and a great opportunity for a new start every morning is the beginning of a new and better day.
- Stretches: Stretch your body and try to feel every body part. This wakes up your body & mind as well as prevent tightness and stiffness (in doubt, just look at babies, dogs or cats and how much they naturally stretch their body parts - not only in the morning but throughout the whole day)
- Water: Hydration, hydration, hydration. Rule no. 1 to good health, natural beauty and more energy. This also regulates your hunger and prevent you from over-eating at breakfast
- Lemon-cleanse: I personally find that a glass of hot water with the juice from 1/2 a fresh lemon is just as much a morning ritual as it is a very healthy drink. The feeling of drinking this fresh c-vitamin boosted drink makes me feel that this is going to be a healthy day. This also gives you a shot of C-vitamin, it boosts your metabolism and it has several other proven health benefits
- Positive Thoughts: Think happy thoughts! Be grateful! Look forward for something today! Kiss your boyfriend! Wear something that makes you feel comfortable! Decide that today you are going to be good to yourself and today is going to be a great day!
Most important of all: wake up 30min earlier and allow yourself some extra time. Stress and lack of time from the minute you step out of bed is the worst habit I can think of. I know it's easier said than done but the benefits of having more time to get a good start of the day are huge. I always just think to myself that to night I will be in this bed again and if I want to be here this much I'll just go to bed 30 min earlier! Or sleep when you're old Line - today is here and it's time to make the most of it!
