It's weekend in the city & it's time for brunch!
Weekend brunch is one of the highlights of the week in Shanghai and brunch spots is a really popular topic: The new-in-town brunch, the green & safe brunch, the super fancy brunch, the free-flow champagne brunch, the Brazilian all-you-can-eat brunch, the full on English brunch, the o'delice crepes brunch... Yum aaaaall these brunches!
For me, the question is not soooo much about what type of brunch I feel like eating or trying this weekend, it's more about which place I feel like spending my valuable weekend time. And most often after a busy week inside the office, I feel like being outside. When it's sunny with a blue sky I absolutely have to be outside! Buuut anyone who has had the pleasure of living in Shanghai knows that, unless you have a balcony facing south and you are partnering with a chef, a quality brunch outside in the sun is rare...
When one of the girls from our Brunch Club (started by my good friend and Shanghai food blogger Louise loueatsmore) gathered us for brunch in Jing'an I found one of these spots that meets my demand: Henkes is a cafe in one of the corners of the lower floor of the big REEL mall and I have only been there at dinner time. What I realized this beautiful Sunday was that Henkes' outside terrace (i) is massive (ii) is closed off from roads (III) is right in the sun at noon time!
My Sunday at Henkes had it all: good brunch, beautiful drinks & a couple of hours in the Sunday sun with happy girls. I'm definitely keeping Henkes on my list over Brunch or Lunch spots in the sun (and on my list over spots serving amazing bloody mary's). Oh and the food was splendid by the way!
Visit Henkes at Reel Mall, 1/F, 1601 Nanjing Xi lu (near Changde lu).
