I have long wanted to try to make my own muesli so after we finished the last weetabix I gave it a go. Yum yum yummy in my tummy! It should be illegal to eat anything but homemade muesli and these are my 3 reasons why:
1. it is healthier
It is as healthy as you want it to be and it is healthIER than buying because you get to control what goes inside of weird food additives. I suggest you add none (though some ingredients for example oats may already contain some)
2. It is easy
You surely don't have to be a housewife to either be able to manage muesli making or find the time. It is literally pouring desired ingredients to an oven tray, stir and the oven will take care of the rest if you just make sure to preheat it
3. it is delicious
Muesli made with love. Needless to say: it is much better than the ones you buy
Make your own
I've read a lot of different recipes more or less containing the same group of ingredients so I decided to make up my own recipe. In this way I can make a paleo-inspired muesli with just as many seeds & nuts as oats. Protein, protein, protein!
I also like to do it this way so I can use whatever is easy to get my hands on in Shanghai (trying to make life easier here, right).
5 dl of oats
3 dl of natural coconut flour (i love coconut)
2 dl of sun flour seeds
2 dl of pumpkin sees
2 dl of flax seeds
1 cup of almonds
1 cup of hazelnuts
4 tablespoons of acacia honey
1 cup of raisins or cranberries
Mix all dry ingredients except nuts and raisins and pour on an oven tray with baking paper. Add honey drizzles as consistently as possible. Stir.
Bake in a pre-heated oven at 175 degrees for 35 minuts or until golden. Add nuts the last 10 minutes of the baking time. When cold add raisins and pour into a cute jar that can shine on your kitchen table and welcome you to breakfast every morning!
Tip: Try to add pieces of chocolate, other nuts or dried fruits
