This Sunday morning I felt like a treat and served myself an ice-cold Almond-Banana Smoothie in bed. Milk-based smoothies are so yummy when you have a sweet tooth or feel like some extra energy in the morning. Today I based my smoothie on soy milk but thought to myself it should have been on almond milk in order to support the flavor of the roasted almonds I added. I don't see almond milk a lot of places here in Shanghai but through my Instagram community I learned today that you can get it at the renowned Avocado Lady on Wulumuqi Lu and in bigger international supermarkets e.g City Super in the IAPM Mall. What I also learned from one of my Instagram connections is that it's super easy to make your own almond milk. I can't wait to try!
Here I'll share the recipe so you can try as well!
1 cup of milk (soy, almond, cow's)
1/2 cup of water
10-15 almonds slightly roasted on the pan
A dash of honey
Blend & Enjoy
Homemade Almond Milk
1 cup almonds soaked in water over night
2 cups of water
Vanilla essence / vanilla powder
Blend and add to a smoothie or a coffee (if it's for coffee you may want to strain the milk through a sleve. The almond bits can be used in smoothies, muffins or on yoghurt.)
