We all know that it's absolutely possible to make healthy choices when eating out. No doubt about that. But we also know that when we eat out at most traditional eateries the healthy choices are not the most fun ones (garden salad anyone?). My key to stay Healthy & Happy has been to discover those heavenly spots that surround their concept around health, naturalness, color, nutrition, vitamins and also yumminess!
Here I'll share my list of Shanghai's Top Green Cafes 2014 with you:
1. Green & Safe
Dongping lu 6 (close to Hengshan lu)
Check my review of G & S here. This place is a haven for a quick green yummy lunch in their cafe area, a green brunch or dinner at the top floor restaurant or just for picking up green fresh groceries brought in from the company's own farm.
- Xintiandi: 185 Madang lu
- Lujiazui: Super Brand Mall B2/F
My absolute favorite lunch spot is Sproutworks and I visit their Xintiandi location several times a week. It's quick, it's delicious and it's healthy. Their wide range of healthy sides which rotates every day is such a treat to health conscious Shanghai resides. Thank you Sproutworks!
3. Pure & Whole
- Shanghai Center: suite 104, 1376 Nanjing Xi lu
- Kerry Center Pudong B/F
- Jing'an 98 Yanping lu
- Gubei: 179 Maotai lu
Find my review of Pure & Whole here. It is the absolute top pick for vegetarians and especially vegans in Shanghai. They have so many mouthwatering vegan choices and I can never decide on what to try and eat! Thank God for the dish-sharing culture here in China!
The founder and owner of Wagas is Danish like me and more than 10 years ago he started the Wagas concept. It's now a super popular cafe which you will find many places in Shanghai often with more Chinese visitors than expats. They have a wide range of delicious choices like sandwiches, pastas, wraps and my favorite: Their salads. I'm a fan of their Vegetarian Platter Salad!
5. Organic Kitchen
57 Fuxing lu (close to Yongfu lu)
Find my review of Organic Kitchen here.
My friend Alcide's is the owner of this healthy focused eatery serving a wide range of salads, dips and warm dishes. I'm a big big biiiig fan of his bun-less vegetarian burger made out of chick pea patties, fried eggplant and roasted veggies. Such a cozy spot for a casual dinner with organic wine - and look out for Alcide's live music events.
