One of the most cool and healthy eateries in Shanghai is Green & Safe on Dongping Lu 6 (near Hengshan Lu) which is a cafe, a restaurant, a specialty store as well as a green grocer. The company behinds run a farm in Kunshan and sell lots of their products and produce as "organic". Some people say there's no such thing in China but anyways I feel good about eating and buying at Green & Safe!
The venue on Dongping lu is a combined specialty grocer, deli and cafe and has a super vibrant yet cozy feel to it. I love coming here for a quick lunch - though choosing between aaaall the super healthy & delicious items behind the deli counter can take some time and beware: this place is super popular so in rush lunch/brunch hours it gets crowded. Luckily they have lots of seats and if you don't mind getting close you don't have to wait too long for a seat.
Upstairs you find The Green Kitchen which is the restaurant part. Today we finally made it to visit this part of Green & Safe for brunch. My friend and food reviewer Lou from Loueatsmore has been telling me soooo many times to go and I am so happy we did! We had such good non-milky coffee, such fresh juice and such well-made omelets with greens! (And my better half enjoyed a thick French Toast which I choose to ignore for this healthy-focused blog post.....).
Before you leave make sure to take a stroll though the grocery and pick up some greens, nuts, dark chocolate or organic wine. Or don't, because you definitely end up with more than you need - their selection of specialties is just yum even after you had your food cravings fulfilled in the cafe or restaurant.
