So we all know that alcohol is not super good for neither our body nor our mind. Unless it's in really controlled amounts (oh) and come from organic grapes (oooooh). And we should know that a break from drinking is a really good idea... Just once in a while friends! It's a really good habit that I have gotten into the last few years and I'll quickly share my general alcohol-habits with you:
- 95% of the time I stick to wine. I started with this habit approximately one year ago. Not having any strong spirits like vodka etc. when I go out have had such a positive impact on my Sundays as well as on my physical and mental energy in the days after a night out
- I seldom have alcohol during the working week (buuuut a glass of wine & girls dinner do go really well together)
- I try to have an alcohol free weekend every month and
- Me and my my boyfriend have one month a year with absolutely no alcohol (Oh Yes. It also includes wine. Excludes I mean...). This month of Nutritious November is such a month!
So what to do in Shanghai in the weekend when you don't want it to include alcohol? To be honest, though do-able, it's really not ideal to head to Friday night's happy hour with my colleagues for double up on coffees... or to join Saturday's group dinner at teppanyaki, have a soda and leave early... Of course I could decide to have just one glass of wine buuuut 99 % of the time one glass of wine just tastes like the next, right?
Therefore during my Nutritious November it's black & white: No Alcohol
So does this equals plain boring November weekends?
Absolutely not! This equals the perfect opportunity to Get Away!
Get Started, Get Inspired, Get Away!
When living in Shanghai I often think about how how time is flying and one thing I've learned here is that if you want to do something different, see something new and most importantly travel out of Shanghai you have to lock it in. A non-drinking period is the perfect time to do that - to focus on doing and planning something else than the weekly big-city happening. And I promise you, there will be a group dinner, a housewarming and a KTV night when you're back!
As mentioned, my month of Nutritious November is of course absolutely alcohol free. And I already miss a glass of wine. No actually let me rephrase, I already look forward to having a glass of wine at my friend Luna's housewarming when my month without alcohol is over.
At the moment I feel amazing, have lots of energy and I have traaaavel plans. This weekend me and my boyfriend are traveling to Suzhou to finally get to experience this historical city. Next week I'll make sure to post a review so you guys can get inspired and until then check my other shorter and longer Shanghai get-aways here.
Big-city-life fun and drinking is awesome but as I often mention I find that it is so important for our General Well-being, our Health and our Happiness to take a break and get out of Shanghai. That's why I use a whole section on Shanghaihabits to share my traveling in China - to help, inspire and motivate you to get away.
Small as well as big get-aways make me re-energized, make me think about new ideas and makes me consider the future in a different perspective. It most importantly buys me the only thing I believe money is really worth buying: experiences!
Last month's October holiday to Taiwan made me feel like a new person and if possible, all my get-aways would be to the sea!
Have a great weekend Friends - please share your favorite Shanghai get-aways, your thoughts, your ideas or just a hello. And don't forget to Share & Subscribe!
